The Lupini Effect

July 23, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Here’s a cool thing:

Any time one uses irrelevant statistics, stories or testimonials to bolster a cause or pitch is called the “Lupini” effect.

Like right now. I just made that up. It’s complete bull.

There is no Lupini effect.

It’s a product of my imagination and the name derived from one of my recent sessions, the Lupini family. True story.

I just thought it sounded cool. And I think I also may have dreamed about it too.

(Five hundred years ago they’d burn me at the stake for these crazy ideas.)
Okay, work with me. Call it whatever you want, (for now let’s call it the
Lupini effect….why not….), but for the sake of argument, let’s say there
is a legit area in life where one uses irrelevant content to bolster their argument.

In wider circles this may be called the finer art of bullshit. Or, maybe, hyperbole.

Some like to take two complete separate ideas, bring them together, and make a new premise.
This is called “conflating.”…or…”correlation does not imply causation”

My point is this. You’re selling, all the time. You’re selling you, and you’re selling your photography skills.

Whatever you say, and however you say it, make it consistent. For example, you might say a canvas wall sample is a great idea.

And yet, in your studio you have no, or very small wall samples, and/or canvases.

People can catch these inconsistencies.

One cool way to look for areas that need fixin’ is to ask yourself:
“What are all the objections?”

And have a strong, BELIEVABLE and consistent answer for each. And don’t wait
for the questions to be asked before you offer the answers. Mention them in advance.

Makes you look smarter too. And believable.

Let there be light… and let there be profits

Join us and learn, prosper…Lighting Mastermind presentaion

Monday, July 16th at 8:00PM EST… REPLAY HERE

One thing that separates  me from other photography coaches and mentors is the fact that I am in the struggle everyday. Like many of you. I feel your pain, your joy and I like it when we all succeed.

With that success must be profits. Or we’re just playing at a hobby.

When I run a presentation on lighting, I like to show real legitimate money making scenarios from real paying clients. Whenever possible.

Sometimes I find a new or interesting lighting strategie can be evolved into my day to day studio. If not, I ain’t that interested except for rare exceptions like the few times I went out and tried my hand at astro photography for the fun of it. Something cool about being out in the forest at 2:00AM….but it stops there. I have bills to pay.

In that spirit tonight’s lighting mastermind includes a variety of lighting, and posing examples that I will dig into.

Including:

Classic executive headshots on location….

Family portraits on location using the Godox AD 200 and AD600….or, all natural light…

Three brothers…..

Using the Godox high speed sync for executive portraits on location….
and more..

Join us and learn, prosper…

Make this your year…one simple wealth building strategy.

July 13, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Felix qui nihil debet….’Happy is he who owes nothing’…goes the Roman proverb.

If you’re looking for something to do to make this year truly epic, consider this: Getting out of debt, or, if you’re already one of the rare ones who’s on this, consider increasing your wealth.

Here’s how…..

Count it….count all your debt or, all your assets. Measuring is the first step.

And start chipping away at it, or start building even more wealth. No shame.

It can be hard to remove the chains of debt. It takes courage, discipline and grit.

But do it you must if you want to be free. Truly free.

I learned this decades ago, and it has served me well.

Let me say it again…..“You WILL NEVER be free when bound in debt to others.”

Think of it this way. You’re swimming in a deep lake..Treading water. And someone throws you a twenty pound rock to hold. Fun, ain’t it?

That’s what debt is like. Don’t fret, don’t whine, don’t complain. START!

Even counting your debt load, although for some may seem like an exercise in despair, is a great strategy to start with. When you measure, you start improving.

Don’t get into a state of despair. Look at your reality for what it is….and come up with a plan. Get creative.

Be smart.

I’ll share more strategies on strategies on creating wealth. Soon.

Everyone needs that extra `push` to realize their potential, their dreams and become the best photographer, business owner and best person they can be….if you need one on one, I’m here.

One of the ‘doers’….

July 11, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

You hear a lot of whining and complaining about the photography industry these days. Seems photographers are dropping like flies.

Hell, even I get scared and worried on occasion. I keep an eye on big moving trends.
If there’s a tsunami coming at least I’ll see it.

But for now all is good, and I know a handful of photographers who are doing great.

I keep an eye on all of them. I like learning. I like making money doing what I been doing for the last 39 years. (yea, turning 60 this month).

The ones doing ok all have the same thing in common with Hark, our special guest on my next Marketing Mastermind tonight at 8:00PM and you’re welcome to join us live. (the recording will be made available for members.)

See, Hark Nijar, even though he’s relatively new to the game of being in business as a photographer, has the same thing in common with others who have been in the game since forever.

Photographers I like to follow because they’re all doers.

They make things happen. Like Maria Sampaio, Danny Rabalais, Maggie Habieda and Warne Noyce to name but a few.

They get up and at em and aren’t afraid to hit the streets and grind it out in the hot blazing sun.

Who else would you want to learn from?

“I knew and was convinced the plane was going down….”

July 3, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

“Obsession isn’t just a mental game either; it’s a total game involving the physical, spiritual, emotional, familial and financial. You have to be in great shape in every respect to play this game and stay in it, because the evil forces of average, entitlement, normalcy, and complacency are working against you.”
~Grant Cardone– ‘Be Obsessed Or Be Average‘~

I used to be deathly afraid of flying. To me, every time I flew, I knew and was convinced the plane was going down.

Every noise, everything sudden shift and every possible worse case scenario played on me and my over active hyper-driven imagination.

Now it’s different. Completely.

I am amazed at the fact that we can defy gravity and lift so much weight into the air.

When I fly now, I marvel at the miracle of flight. In awe. I got used to it, and, I’ve resigned to that fact that whatever will be, will be.

I worry more about delays and missed connecting flights than anything else.
That, and making sure I have enough videos to watch on my tablet. I get bored.

In business it’s the same. At first, it’s very scary. For most, it’s something we’re not used to. We have certain ideas what to expect. But reality rules and if we digress from the true path to success, destiny nudges us back.

If we’re smart, we take those cues, and learn. If we’re not, we crash and burn. And risk becoming bitter.

Smart business owners learn from mistakes. And, like flying, we can do one of two things…:

  • get used to it, enjoy the ride
  • get on the plane

In other words, don’t not fly because of the fear of flying. It’s a thing like everything else. You get used to it. Yes, that includes success.

The one thing you have to watch out for in success is taking it for granted. Like a plane on auto-pilot, you eventually have to take control. Especially in bad weather.

I always said, and still believe this axiom to this day: “Being in business is the best self-help program out there.”

You’ll learn more about yourself, and discover your biggest and best potential.

One thing I discovered along my journey is the power of the mastermind and having mentors. We need a team.

You can’t fly a plane alone. Even when you fly solo, you need to talk with others on the ground, your mechanics, in the flight tower, the weather people etc etc. You get my point.

It’s never truly a solo flight. Nor is it in business.

We need others. I learned this decades ago. And use it to my advantage and to help me grow as a person and in business.

One of my favorites is Maria. And last week I had her on a Marketing Mastermind presentation. She shared more strategies on business building and her main superpower, selling.

I invited everyone to this life event, but the replay is available, as usual, for members HERE

Also, mark your calendars…on July 11, 2018 at 8:00PM EST I am having another monthly marketing mastermind with yet another one of my favorite people, Hark….who’s been growing his photography business by leaps and bounds and will be updating us.

I always noticed certain common traits with those who seem to succeed in business.

They have a fire, a passion. They don’t over think, but think they do.

They learn from mistakes and keep going. They love being independent. They have a realistic and healthy outlook on life, and take it one day at a time.

But they have a big picture plan. Let me help you make your plan. Join us…

“Aaaannndddd I’m back….”

June 26, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

After a 6200 KM two week journey, (that’s 3852 miles for my American buddies), from Fort St John BC to the most northerly part of Canada, Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, where I walked barefeet in the artic ocean, I’m back.

What a journey.

See, my mother passed away four years ago. She had six sisters and one brother.
He, not unlike myself, was the only boy in the family. I have four sisters.

Anywho, we connected after the funeral and planned this trip about a year ago. He’s retired and 76 years old. And he was a very successful mortgage and investment dude. Very.

Almost half this trip was done on hardpack shale and gravel roads. Over the tundra.

When we were done this trip I told him the conversations we had just as interesting as the scenery. I acquired a virtual mini MBA from him.

I mean, what else ya gonna talk about, driving about 6-8 hours almost EVERY day?

He was mildly annoyed that I had my laptop with me. I reminded him I am not retired. The wheels need to keep on turning in my studio. Not that I was on it constantly.

Just enough. And one of the events I organized and set up was the follow up presentation with Maria Sampaio.

Which is tonight, 8:00PM EST.

And you’re welcome to join us.

Han Solo and the feisty transgender interracial feminist robot…

May 29, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Saw Han Solo the other night. It was decent, “refreshing” as I explained to my wife whilst walking to the car leaving the cinemas.

I told her how I can’t stand movies that insert social justice causes into the story and political correctness. It drives me nuts. They must think they’re hiding it. Not!

It’s so obvious it actually ruins the story line. Give me a break.

And they’re only doing themselves more harm. See, we ALL love a good story.
Not one that preaches to us. The last few Star Wars did just that.

Han Solo, although it won’t win any awards, was fun, light, entertaining….like a good old fashioned western. Me likey….

When Lando entered the scene, and his robot side kick, L3-37, I thought, oh oh….here we go. She’s a feisty transgender interracial feminist robot with a chip on her “shoulder”.

But they only skirted the edges of social justice mania and avoided the entire rabbit hole.

She was a funny, feisty robot. You actually started to relate to her, like as if she’s human. Weird.

Another thing I can’t stand about Hollywood, and this is one small criticism I had about this movie (my wife hears to complain about this ALL the time), is that the main role of Han was played by an actor, who, in my oh so humble yet accurate opinion, was “way too handsome.”

Hollywood does this all the time. They pick actors and actresses because they are super hot, dam near perfect.

Not good. I like flaws. A good actor we can all relate to, not some Instagram picture perfect face and squared jaw.

Actors like Seymour Philipp Hoffman, Al Pacino, Cate Blanchett, Jake Gyllenhaal, Joaquin Phoenix or Frances McDormand ( Fargo)….

You know, somewhat flawed, and quirky. Like me.

Like my marketing. Keep the marketing story simple.

Don’t muddy the waters with your crazy social justice agenda. It ain’t working.

It’s how we market, promote and sell our fairy sessions. Old school, simple, straight up marketing.

Create a product, make an offer, find your target market, and pitch them.

Rope em in.

Once you get them in the loop, then upsell them. Softly. No need to go hard here.

Soft sell is ALL you need when selling these amazing sessions.

It’s called ascension marketing. And I reveal much more in my webinar:

Secrets to building, creating, selling and promoting Enchanted Fairy, Ice Fairy & Medieval Themed Sessions

No bull. Just profit making strategies.

How to cheap out on lighting…

May 25, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

SO I’m working on a coffee table book with a local restaurant. This is for a great cause and should give me oodles of exposure, plus a warm fuzzy feeling.

I’m truly honored and excited.

When we sat down to discuss and figure out the details, which are far from figured out, I thought about what style, what look I wanted to bring to this project.

I keep going simple, straight forward, “coming out of the shadows” so to speak. The cause is epilepsy and is way bigger than folks are aware of. That photo below is my first test shoot.

One photographer who’s look inspired me is Chris Knight.

You may recall this young dude. I interviewed him a few months ago.

I also reviewed his book HERE

I swiped his look, so to speak, best I could. Simple, clean, powerful.

EXCEPT….(you knew that was coming, didn’t you….)…except I used a $6. LED light from the hardware store. Not a million dollar profoto what’s it called light thingie.

ME thinks it works. Again, see image above. The graphic designer who I am also working with loves it. All is good.

I talk in greater detail on my el cheapo approach, as well as an update on using the Goddox AD200 in the field on portrait and wedding shoots, and some of the limitations and complications arising from this amazing little light.

All that and more in the replay of the May 2018 Lighting Mastermind HERE for members

Non members can watch the replay HERE

See you on the inside.
