Hey Rob, I don’t see a way to post a pic of my lighting setup – I usually use a 5′ octodome camera left, pulled way forward (about halfway up the 4′ pond) and 90 degrees from subject, and a kicker back right (which isn’t always obvious in final images) I like to have deeper shadows to work with – the “flattening” you mentioned I often do in Photoshop if necessary, by reducing contrast/blacks a bit before I start my painting process.. Working on fiddling with some other setups to try some new looks too.
