So, I did it. I actually did it and I kinda sorta love it now. It’s actually a thing.
And I waited at least 30 days to make sure it’s a thing, before I jump the gun and y’all start thinking I’m full of it.
Of what do I speak? Simple….getting up at 5:00AM.
Now before you quit on me, hear me out.
The first thing you need to know is this: I am the consummate night owl. Always have been, and I thought I always would be forever and ever.
I am NOT going to try and convince you that YOU need to do the same.
Not at all. The message here is this: “It takes at least three weeks to install a new habit.”
But first we need to decide which new habits we need and want to take on, right?
This my friend is a personal question. Only you know.
For me, getting up early had no real significance per say. It started out as an idea that popped into my brain, and I became fascinated with it, somewhat. I tried it. And now, it’s a thing.
I am now the guy who goes to bed at 9:00PM and gets up at 5:00AM.
What I find so weird is this, it has to be five am. Not six, or seven. Which I would have at one time, not so long ago, found insanely early, but five. Go figure.
I feel alive, inspired, motivated and healthy.
And I can’t really explain why I did this. I can, to some degree explain how. That’s easy. I went to bed at nine one night, and set my alarm for five.
And, I told myself to give it a go. I will admit to having some doubts in my head. ‘Ain’t no way I’m going to fall asleep this early….”
Boom….off I went. Snoozing away, up about 8 hours later. Totally amazed.
Well raise my rent. What happened? This feels good!
And coffee tastes great at 5:00AM. Let’s try it again. And again. And keep going for at least 30 days before I brag on about it, in case I fail at some point.
I am completely baffled. But I love it!
Sure, it helps the taste of coffee when a hundred birds are singing in the background, adding to the experience…After all I started this when in Costa Rica, on my my last week there.
Back home, now in Canada, and I am still the guy who gets up at five. Again, go figure.
What’s important to know here is this….an idea who’s time has come will take a few efforts from you. One, a mindset change. I find affirmations work. And two, at least three weeks, four better, to install the new changes.
Many of these changes can be new ideas you’d love to implement, or getting over struggles, addictions, messes, or worse. In those instances you may also need to get extra external help such as one-on-one coaching, or therapy, or a 12 step meeting. Who knows? Only you do.
But knowing is powerful, and takes some serious honesty. And digging. And only YOU have the shovel.
There is no easy road on this one. We can use tools, tools such as the five year goal setting sheets I always rely on. Or similar. Whatever. One set of tools is a good as the next. If you’re looking for answers, they will show up.
But, you gotta be searching. And be willing.
Start there.
Starting the journey starts in many ways. This one started as a simple idea. Let’s get up at five am. Why not?
Some of my other struggles were way bigger mountains at one time…..booze, cigarettes, debt, fears and an overwhelming struggle with fear of speaking in public, one on one or in groups.
All these things held me back at some point. And until I faced them, so many years ago, I was never going to be free.
Thankfully, I faced it, myself and my demons square in the eye. Good thing! Otherwise, who knows where I’d be today.
Anywho, I like to help in as many ways as I can. And tomorrow night, I’ll be touching on this topic, and other topics to do with success and marketing.
You might think what’s facing your demons got to with success? My answer: EVERYTHING.
Fix the owner and you fix the business.
It’s that simple. Easy? Never. Worth it? Let me count the ways.
JOIN ME… Thursday, May 16th, 7:00PM EDT….. (so I can get to bed by nine! :)…)
Yours in success and in photography,
Rob
