My brain won’t stop. I thought for sure it got filled up years ago. But, alas, there’s still room left in that little pea brain of mine. Go figure.
I call myself an info-junkie. Others might be more generous and say I am a self-educated, self-made man.
Either way, the best education comes from within.
Let’s look at the word education.
Educate: derived form the Latin “educo”, meaning to educe, to draw out, to develop from within.
I ain’t braggin or anything, but it appears I still love learning, even though I’m turning 61 next month.
I was doing a quick inventory of the things in my life that I am up to these days, and when I stood back, I thought: “Ok, that’s nice…or maybe I’m just crazy.”
Here’s what I got….so far:
*guitar and singing lessons (I figure as I get older, this is something I can take on as hobby, or, as retirement income vs begging for food, I can start busking on the beaches in Costa Rica…).
*website design….yes, I started digging deep into this and am learning how to create web sites, possibly host them for small businesses down the road.
*newborn posing and wrapping….ugh. Not sure what inspired me to buy this course, but there you have it. I’m somewhat motivated to master the fine art of ‘baby wrapping.’
*google adwords- Udemy…yup, I had an hour long consult with a google adwords guru Alex Makarski and he suggested this course. So, I bought it. I’ve known Alex for years and was part of a monthly mastermind meet up in Toronto that he ran. (I shot his bio pics on his site)
*webinars and presentations. Of course. I run about four to eight every month. This really keeps me in the loop and I learn and am inspired by real photographers on marketing, success and struggles
*Dan Kennedy newsletter. I’ve been with Dan Kennedy since 1998. No one comes close. Google him and buy his books. Get his newsletter.
*James Altucher newsletter. I subscribed a few years ago. He emails the pdf, which drives me nuts. But I’m over it. When I get the monthly email with PDF, I print it out and staple right away. (I hate reading pdf’s…ugh). His newsletter, books and podcast are highly recommended.
*Books every morning- Right now I am reading three books, of which I read of few pages first thing every morning.
Right now reading:
- Think & Grow Rich Napolean Hill classic must-read
- The way of the wolf By Jordan Belfort….on selling
- Positive Action Plan Napolean Hill
*Book every night….right now, reading The Complacent Class by Tyler Cowen. Hard hitting truth about America’s biggest problems.
*Podcasts. Of course….I listen to Joe Rogan, Ivor Cummings, Jordan Peterson, James Altucher, Dan Carling to name a few. Often, while work flowing orders, or driving.
I can’t do podcast while jogging. For that, old school blues, Led Zep and U2….
The first time I heard this quote way back in early 1990’s it resonated and stuck with me:
“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no “brief candle” for me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”
~George Bernard Shaw~
Sez it all….
Yours in success and in photography,
Rob
