A few days ago Abbas from Album Epoca hosted a gathering of photographers to talk about their lock down strategies and plans for coming out of the lockdown. Good watch.
A brief summary from each of the speakers:
- Susie O’Connor Took advantage of this time to create some gift certificates which were delivered online. This strategy ensures bookings as soon as the lockdown was over
- Maggie Habieda an Oakville, Ont photographer. well known for her networking and event marketing decided to stay connected with her clients. She called a minimum of three clients per day and connected one on one
- Warne Noyce a photographer from North Battleford, SK lost all of what was to be one of his best seasons in his studio’s history. Warne decided to relax, chill out, take stock and not worry about it. All his sessions, including many dance schools, weddings and high school seniors have rescheduled so Warne is optimistic about the future
- Annie Simard is a Quebec city based photographer. All her weddings rebooked and her intimate weddings stayed on track for 2020. Annie used this time to revisit her workflow, create a product to help other photographers increase the efficiency in their own wedding workflow
- Sam Sciarrino is a Toronto based photographer took advantage of this time to revisit his expenses and costs, and also to come up with sales based on story telling albums to past clients. “Covid has exposed weaknesses. Which gives us an opportunity to improve.”
- Andrew Simpson is from Abbotsford BC Andrew used this time to stay in touch with clients. He mainly used texting, stating that this is a far more effective way vs email to get their attention and stay connected. “A faded photo is better than your strongest memory.”
- Genevieve Trudel a photographer from Quebec She found herself with some bad timing in that she had recently expanded her studio just before the lockdown. Her position on the lockdown evolved into a positive one that it was in fact a gift. We work in a profession that deliver strong values. We have much to appreciate.
- Kevan Wilkie from Fernie BC “Instead of collecting sessions fees we had people make a donation to the local food banks in lieu of a session fee. That raised funds for the local community as well as ensured that our pipeline was full coming out of Covid restrictions.”
- Rob Provencher from Sudbury Ontario (yours truly) had all fairy events and wedding cancelled, and rebooking. Pop up weddings in Sudbury, ONT, a service he recently started, may rise and become more relevant
