We’ve been running scared since the beginning of human evolution.
It’s in our DNA….
Way, way back in time, there was a time when we mere humans were in the middle of the dominance hierarchy.
In other words, we had as many predators after us as we had below us.
Then, in an evolutionary flicker of time we shot up to the top. We became the apex predators because of technology…..fire, tools, working as a team….
But our DNA didn’t change. We were, and still are to this day a band of neurotic and scared creatures.
We are stuck in fear mode, evolutionary speaking.
Survival mode. It takes millions of years to change that. Sharks, apex creature from the oceans, have been evolving for so long it shows in their lack of fear and confident swagger.
Of all the emotions, nothing comes close to the dopamine inducing effects of fear.
It’s the main driving force behind cults, mass hysteria and most main stream media.
Fear sells. We love it. We relate to it.
It puts “bums in the seats” and eyeballs on the screens so to speak.
Fear served a purpose. It was called survival.
Nowadays we have no reason to be manipulated by our fears. In fact, being aware of this emotion and working towards an objective rational state will serve you best.
And it unlocks the door and opens the way to an authentic, prosperous and healthy state.
It takes work, discipline, honesty and a little craziness. Not to mention curiosity.
Here’s a list of the biggest modern fears, inspired by Napoleon Hill to get you started:
1) FEAR OF POVERTY
2) FEAR OF CRITICISM
3) FEAR OF ILL HEALTH
4) FEAR OF LOSS OF LOVE
5) FEAR OF OLD AGE
6) FEAR OF DEATH
Do you recognize any fears in your life? It takes effort and courage and patience to battle this emotion. The most natural, ingrained and useful of emotions.
Useful if we’re being stalked by a tiger. Also useful if we recognize this state.
Take a deep breath.
Relax and calm down before we start running away. Running from our true path, our true potential.
But only if we become aware and conscious of our true nature. Fear can’t easily dominate us. If we let it.
Yours in success in photography,
Rob
