A few days ago we hosted a marketing mastermind with guest host John Butler. John, like me, runs a full time photography business in a variety of markets…schools, dance schools, commercial, headshots and more. |

Of all the businesses ideas that many dream of starting, a small, cozy coffee shop is one of the most popular.
I admit, I dream this dream too. Especially lately, after getting beat up and drained from this whole lock down thing. (more on that later)

A few days ago Abbas from Album Epoca hosted a gathering of photographers to talk about their lock down strategies and plans for coming out of the lockdown. Good watch.

My wife creates hand made jewellery. Two years now. We started selling her one-of-a-kind creations at local craft shows both in our city and down in Costa Rica when there this winter.
Sales were brisk to say the least. We may be onto something. Even Sheldon, the creator of the weekly Thursday night market, where we had a table for six weeks in a row, stated her stuff was going to sell.

It was sometime last fall. I was waiting for a family to show up for a photo shoot.
(I love photographing families. My favorite of all shoots.)
I suffer for my craft. Mostly self imposed I must confess.

I’m not gonna lie. This is not easy.
(Isn’t it strange hearing that- “I’m not gonna lie”? As if lying was a credible option?…)

There’s a big shift happening in the photography world.
Chances are, you’ve heard about studios and photographers struggling to stay alive.
Many aren’t even getting paid. As if shooting and giving away your photography services is enough. No return. No profits. Just a blast of dopamine from the ooohhs and aaaahhhhsss…
But here’s what you haven’t heard:The money isn’t disappearing. It’s just shifting into a new kind of photography gig.
Chad 2.0….”How to interact with clients and get killer expressions.”
What happens when your roll Yervant, Ghionis and a few other big name marquee photography names into one?
You got Chad. He’s a just a regular dude pushing his wedding photography business and totally crushing it.
I call him Chad 2.0 because we had him present 3 months ago and his ideas, his content was epic…..
I never got it why people got so excited over “celeb” photographers….mostly because they’re speaking at conventions and such.
Like being on a stage is the thing.
Well that, and they’re creating really great images. We like others who seem to have magic powers when it comes to creating stunning images.
I do. I try and be like them all the time. We all wanna be rockstars.
Thing is, there’s a whole lot more out there than the dudes and dudettes on the stage or in the Creative Live ad.
The truth is, we’re all a bunch or regular ‘ol shmucks….like me.
Out there doing our best to keep our businesses going, maintaining a steady cashflow.
We luvs our gurus don’t we?
I like guys like Chad, because he’s the real deal. He works very hard. He lives in the Bronx, has a wife and family and some serious passion for his craft.
Mostly, he’s really got it going on in the photography department.
And he brought this passion to his presentation last week. No fluff talk, no equipment, no tech….. pure story, pure strategy based on real, honest to goodness client interactions.
All on creating emotional connection with them and creating images that sell.
It doesn’t get any better than that.
Real talk, real strategies, from real photographers.
That’s how I like to expand, grow, learn (something we always need to be doing in todays climate) and build our photography business.
The replay for our mastermind meeting last Thursday called:
“Success Shooting Couples and Families- How to interact with clients and get killer expressions.”
It’s in the downloads section……go get it here.
If you aren’t a member, and want access to it, it’s simple….details.
Yours in photography and success,
Robert Provencher
