A few days ago I hosted Maria Sampaio in one our monthly marketing mastermind presentations.
I’ve had Maria on before and for good reason. She’s by far the best at sales. Her numbers and her ubber busy studio back this up. She mentioned how she booked a session with a young photographer down the street, who offers very nicely done glamor style, a la Sue Bryce sessions. And, her big mistake is the way she way, way under prices her services. Way. After all was said and done, Maria told her who she was, and gave this young lady one of the best pieces of pure sold gold wisdom. She said something like : “I could have sold this same product for thousands of dollars more than I’m paying you for it.” Maria didn’t say this to be mean or anything. It comes from a very good place. A place where, as we all know about her, and is very obvious, she’s willing and eager to help others succeed. Another similar story in this presentation was how Maria asked a photographer friend to photograph her upcoming wedding. And this photographer offered to shoot it at cost. Maria’s reply, and I paraphrase: “I am paying you full price. I value what you do. And I want you too as well. Please, take my money….” It’s funny how we as artists tend to undervalue our worth. This key understanding, and eventual mastery of is the doorway to financial success and freedom. The struggle is real and the battle must be won.
