“Wow! She is such an incredible inspiration….”

August 20, 2018 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Laura emailed me last week, the day after we had Nancy Tillberg give us her follow up presentation (we had her on last winter talking about her specialty: High Volume Boutique photography…)

“Loved the webinar with Nancy Tillberg. Wow! She is such an incredible inspiration. I hope she comes out with either a book or a program for photographers on her 3-tier model program. It is something I have thought about for a long time, especially working with the younger gals, to build up role model teens in the culture. Thank you for such an inspirational webinar! In joy,

Laura J…”

That presentation was open to everyone, but the replay
is available only for members HERE

Flipping babies upside down and other ways to get great expressions…

April 3, 2017 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Babies love to fly. I discovered this years ago.
And get flipped upside down.

I had an adorable five year old girl, and her 8 month old brother in my studio 2 days ago.
A happy, strong rugged baby boy.

I asked mom to flip him upside down, and bring him close to his sis.
The laughs, the expressions, the pose.

What fun! They think I’m nuts. But they love me at the same time.

I jokingly add: “You can’t never do this to a newborn baby….”

Duh….of course. Always use discretion, and keep safety as top priority when pushing the posing envelope.

If he’s not able to maintain the pose, don’t do it. And if he can, only do it for about five seconds. Remember, all that blood is rushing to the little guys head.

When it comes to getting great expressions, when you can draw from a grab bag of strategies, and techniques, your clients will think you have super powers.

It’s part of our repertoire when it comes to posing. It’s why I love learning the secrets, tips and subtle, sometimes not so subtle nuances from others photographers.

This Thursday, April 6th, 9:00PM EST we’re bringing one of my favorite dudes back, Chad Pennington, to share with use some of his best techniques for getting great expressions in his portrait sessions.
This dude has it going on.

We can, and shall learn.

If you’re a member, INSTANT access, and the eventual replay, will be available HERE (login first!)

If you’re not a member, and want to access this event, it’s  a mere twenty bucks (Canadian funds, no less….for my American friends, that’s like half price!…)…all you need to do is join us. (Cancel anytime!)

“The photography is the easy part…”

October 14, 2016 By Robert Provencher Leave a Comment

Friends in photography,

I was chatting with my main droog and photo associate James Hodgins the other day.

He said something I thought kinda weird, dumb even.

“I feel like putting on a wedding seminar and teaching all the newbie wedding
photographers how to make money in their business.”

“Uh? But you don’t even shoot weddings anymore. Haven’t for like 5 years.” I queried.

“I know” he replied “But what I have to teach is still valid. I see so many doing so many mistakes and leaving so much money on the table.”

Good point. Matters not that he hasn’t shot a wedding in years.
(He’s super busy shooting what he loves shooting, mining, industrial
and all kinds of dirty toys and places…..ugh…)

“The photography is the easy part.” He explained. “It’s the experience you give the client, that’s what matters.”

And when you give them a great experience, you get paid more.

James gave me an example. A friend of his just shot a wedding, made peanuts and complained.

He complained that the photography wasn’t good enough. When if fact, it was.

“Give me the same images, I’ll make a thousand dollars or more, easy. You’re leaving money on the table…the photography is great. That’s the easy part.” He furthered.

Then he pulled out his phone and showed me some recent industrial images that he shot using his latest lighting strategy, one light.

Okay, okay, lighting, selling, whatever….James is about as hyper as a Chihuahua with ADHD on coke and coffees…. he’s passionate too. Loves the game and business of photography.

His images were stunning. So, I did the obvious thing. I invited as guess to the Lighting Mastermind that night so he could show everyone his goods.

We had a blast. Packed an hour and ten minutes with lighting strategies from REAL, genuine, legit PAID sessions.

James had so much fun he says he’s coming back. He wants to talk bid’ness and exlpain more on the “the photography is the easy part” concept.

Allllllrrrighteee. Let it roll. James will be back. Dates and details to follow….

Meantime, for all members, the replay for said Lighting Mastermind is here.

Not a member? Listen, the price is going UP! Right now it’s insanely cheap at $19.97 CA  a month. (plus a 97. one time sign up fee)
That’s like .66cts a day.

Join us.

Yours in photography and success,

Rob

I do admit that some of the crazy artistic compositing I’ve
seen is not for me, but I had an idea and thought I’d give it a try.

One thing for sure, is it’s packed with some very good insights and
detailed analysis marketing reviews from Marian who attended several
shows this year and gave us a detailed synopsis of booth layout, design and
wedding trade show secrets. This is good stuff, and more keeps adding to it.

DIY Lighting…

Neil says….”Great find on the Hurrell pullback shots!” in this thread on Marian’s post
on lighting….
Marian’s post….”Westcott calls them the Spiderlite kits and they sell
different variations (along with other vendors).
I couldn’t believe the size of this 500
watt bulb when I took it out of the box and it got me thinking. I like to DIY things and I
could rig up something permanently in my studio, with a few of these. (Heck, 3 of these
will give me 1500 watts.)
More wattage than the Spiderlite kits!…”  Click here or above to read more.

Fairy models needed
Screen Shot 2015-12-05 at 12.10.25 PM
Sean’s looking for fairy models, “I’m currently having a problem getting more samples
of fairy portrait photos(always has been my problem really). I was suppose to have
a couple of girl models to shoot but it looks like they fell through for now. I’m under
the gun to get a couple more sets of samples. I currently have only one set of samples
from one model. Anyone have any ideas for quickly locating little models?”
